Raiden's 1st Art Show

My son, Raiden, had his 1st art opening last night with his school.  He had 3 pieces in the show and he was very excited.  I was excited because for the longest time he didn't want to draw because he was self conscious about his work.  Lately he has been drawing so much and it makes me happy to see him feel comfortable with himself and with finding artistic ways of expressing himself.  Before we went to the show we went on a hike up a mountain.  Our friend and fellow artist, Ana Ramirez, came to the opening which it made it really special for Raiden.  Here are some pictures of this event:

Here are some sketches I did the other day for Hiawatha.  I am starting a project of animating a portion of the Song of Hiawatha by Henry Longfellow:

Music, Sweet Music

I have been getting a lot of enjoyment out of making music mixes for people lately - especially people with kids.  I believe that kids should be able to listen to good, sophisticated music, and parents should not have to suffer and sacrifice when listening to jams with their kids.  So I have been putting together mixes of classics and modern music and slipping in some audio files of shows like Mr. Roger's Neighborhood, the Cosby Show, and the Muppet Show.  Here is a CD cover I made for a friend today:

Watercolors in the Park

I spent some time painting creatures today.  It was really refreshing to paint freely today.  I started the painting off waiting in the welfare office then finished it at the park with my dog, Tooker:

Jack Kirby's New Gods

Here are some character designs I made based off of Jack Kirby's New Gods character developments.  I redesigned Orion, Big barda, Lightray, Kalibak, Darkseid.  I also made up a character of my own - Darkseid's loyal female warrior:

the Ride

I just completed a 3 minute film about the importance of creativity and appreciation for eachother.  It also serves as a story about my life as a single mom attending the character animation program at California Institute of the Arts.  My son, Raiden, is the voice actor for his own role in this film.  Click on the picture below to see the video:

Sculpting

Here are some photos of a sculpture I am working on.  We had a pregnant model, so I decided to sculpt the mom from my film when she was still pregnant.  It was a bid odd because the film is about me and my son, so I was essentially sculpting my pregnant self.  Thank you John Mahoney for the awesome sculpture class, and beautiful photos.
